Magee 1866 says The Milly is a classic, short blazer – a wardrobe staple. Seen here in a unique and timeless handwoven Donegal Tweed in light brown salt and pepper flecked with blue, ochre and oat neps, proudly designed and woven in our mill in Donegal. This easy to wear blazer finishes at the top of the hip and features three button cuffs, slanted pockets and a notch lapel. About Handwoven Tweed Handwoven tweed is the foundation of our family business – in the 19th century John Magee, a wholesale cloth merchant, would visit monthly tweed markets across South-West Donegal, trading directly with the weavers. At that time weaving was a skill many farmers and fishermen had honed, the cloth they wove on large wooden looms was hardwearing and tough. We are still designing and producing a unique handwoven fabric to this day. We retain similar, timeless designs and use the finest of natural fibre yarns. Designs are sent to the weavers who work in their homes, the raw fabric is then sent back to the mill for finishing. The raw, oily fabric is washed in the peaty waters of the River Eske, which flows by the mill, resulting in a beautifully soft finish. About Magee 1866
Magee was established in 1866 by John Magee, as a small drapers shop in Donegal, Ireland, buying and selling handwoven tweeds.
Magee are still designing and weaving luxury fabrics in Donegal – the ever-changing land and seascapes surrounding Donegal inspire colours and designs. In 2015 Magee acquired Robert Noble, a Scottish mill established in 1666. We use the finest of yarns – cashmere, lambswool, alpaca, silk and linen. These fabrics are used for men and women’s apparel and home furnishing. We still maintain a small hand-weaving business – fabrics are a far cry from the coarse tweeds of the 1800’s, today they are woven using luxury yarns, resulting in a beautifully soft handle.
In 2013 we launched the Magee accessory collection – luxury products designed and made in Ireland and the UK. Home interiors include throws, candles and cushions. Accessories for men and women – pashminas, scarves and bags. These products are available to buy online or in one of our stores.
Every Magee 1866 collection, whether fabric, garment or accessory is designed to reflect our distinctive heritage with a contemporary twist.
